The beach is one block away—about a five-minute walk—and the sound is steps from the porch. Mornings can start in the surf and end on a paddleboard without anyone getting in a car.

The town center is walkable too: coffee, the Loop, dinner, and back again on foot.

A house made by hand

Built in 1935, restored by Chris’s father

Stay Close is a 1935 cottage restored by Chris’s father, a master carpenter, with the family alongside him. That work set the standard for the care and craftsmanship that runs through the house.

Original and reclaimed details are everywhere: the heart-pine stair, the paneling, the trim. It is well-made and lived-in, and meant to be used and enjoyed.

For a full house

Stay Close sleeps 11 across five bedrooms and five baths, with enough room for several generations to share a week comfortably.

The kitchen can handle a full house. The common room under the pine is where everyone tends to gather, and the porches give you somewhere quiet when you want it.

The day ends on the porch

The porch looks toward Banks Channel, and the evening finds its way there on its own—salt still on everyone, dinner going inside, a drink while the light goes.

Laura cares for the cottage day to day in Wrightsville Beach and helps make stays feel easy and well looked after.
